New Delhi – India’s leading two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp on Tuesday launched the new Glamour X 125. The move is a strategic step towards strengthening its position in the highly competitive 125cc motorcycle segment. Launched just ahead of the festive season, the new model is priced at ₹ 89,999 for the drum brake variant and ₹ 99,999 (both ex-showroom) for the disc brake variant.

The launch is a direct response to growing competition, especially from rival Honda, and aims to gain a larger share in a market segment that is proving to be a key growth driver for the industry.

Segment-first features and technology

Hero is positioning the Glamour X not just as another commuter bike but also as a tech pioneer in its category.  The motorcycle comes with a number of features that are not common in the 125cc category, including:

* Ride-by-wire system: This technology delivers more precise and smoother throttle response.

* Cruise control: This feature is usually found in premium motorcycles, allowing riders to maintain a constant speed on the highway.

* Multiple ride modes: The Glamour X comes with three selectable modes—Eco, Road, and Power—that allow riders to adjust the bike’s performance to suit their needs.

* Low battery kick startability: Using the company’s Advanced Electronic Ride Assist (AERA) technology, this new function allows the rider to kick-start the motorcycle even when the battery is low.

* Panic brake alert: A crucial safety feature that automatically warns other vehicles in case of sudden, emergency braking.

These technical changes, which the company calls a “bold new striking design”, are meant to attract young, tech-savvy buyers and those upgrading from the 100-110cc segment.

A strategic move amid a changing market landscape

The launch is a key part of Hero MotoCorp’s long-term strategy to focus on the more profitable 125cc and premium segments. The company’s once unwavering grip on the market has now weakened, with its overall market share falling from 37.04% in FY21 to 28.61% in FY25. In the same period, Honda has bridged the gap, increasing its share from 25.58% to 27.17%.

Although Hero still dominates the entry-level 100-110cc segment with its Splendor and HF Deluxe models, the segment is shrinking.  In contrast, the 125cc segment is growing rapidly. The new Glamour X joins Hero’s existing 125cc portfolio, which includes the performance-oriented Xtreme 125R, the fuel-efficient Super Splendor and the Glamour XTeC.

Highlighting the importance of this segment, Ashutosh Verma, Chief Business Officer, India unit of Hero MotoCorp, said, “The 125cc segment continues to be a growth engine for the motorcycle industry, attracting both ambitious first-time bike buyers and value-conscious upgraders.” With the Glamour X, Hero aims to regain its foothold in this important market and set new benchmarks.
