Priya Marathe Died at 38
The Indian television and film industry is in mourning following the tragic news of the death of popular actress Priya Marathe. She passed away at the age of 38 on Sunday, August 31, at her residence in Mira Road, Mumbai.
Marathe had been courageously battling cancer for the past several years. According to reports, she had shown initial signs of recovery, giving hope to her family, friends, and fans. However, the disease later relapsed and spread, and despite undergoing extensive treatment, her body eventually ceased to respond.
Born in Mumbai on April 23, 1987, Priya completed her education in the city before embarking on a successful acting career. She first made her mark in Marathi television with serials like Ya Sukhanoya and Char Divas Sasuche, where she was quickly recognized as a promising talent.
Her breakthrough in Hindi television came with Ekta Kapoor’s popular drama Kasamh Se, where she played Vidya Bali. However, she became a household name across India for her endearing portrayal of Varsha Satish in the acclaimed serial Pavitra Rishta. Her performance in the show earned her immense recognition and a dedicated fan base.
Priya Marathe’s versatility was a hallmark of her career. She showcased her comedic timing in the first season of Comedy Circus and took on significant roles in other major television projects, including Bade Acche Lagte Hain (2012) as Jyoti Malhotra, Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap, Tu Tithe Me, Bhaage Re Mann, and Jayastute.
Beyond television, Marathe also demonstrated her acting prowess on the silver screen. She appeared in the 2008 Hindi film Humne Jeena Seekh Liya and later delivered a notable performance in the Marathi movie Ti Ani Itar. In this film, she worked under the direction of the celebrated Govind Nihalani and shared the screen with esteemed actors such as Sonali Kulkarni, Subodh Bhave, and Amruta Subhash.
