New Vanguard: Ed-Tech Founder Alakh Pandey’s Wealth Surpasses Shah Rukh Khan
In a remarkable shift underscoring India’s emerging economic landscape, Alakh Pandey, the 32-year-old founder of ed-tech unicorn Physics Wala, has surpassed Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in terms of personal wealth. According to the Hurun India Rich List 2025, Pandey’s net worth has reached ₹14,510 crore, representing a whopping 223% increase in a single year.
This surge puts the young entrepreneur, who began his journey by teaching physics on YouTube in 2016, ahead of Shah Rukh Khan, whose wealth is ₹12,490 crore. Pandey’s co-founder Pratik Maheshwari’s wealth has also increased by 223%, reaching ₹14,520 crore. This phenomenal growth makes the duo one of the fastest wealth creators in the country.
The rise of PhysicsWala’s founders is particularly notable because it comes at a time when the ed-tech company itself is incurring losses. However, the company has shown significant financial improvement, with losses reducing from ₹1,131 crore in the previous fiscal year to ₹243 crore in FY25. Revenues have also increased significantly, from ₹1,940 crore to ₹2,886 crore. The company’s upcoming plans for an initial public offering (IPO) valued at ₹3,820 crore have further strengthened market confidence in its growth trajectory.
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan has also achieved a significant financial milestone. The actor officially entered the prestigious billionaire club, thanks to a robust 71% increase in his personal wealth. This growth was significantly boosted by the stellar performance of his production house, Red Chillies Entertainment, which reported a net profit of ₹85 crore in FY23. The unprecedented success of his film Jawaan, which grossed over ₹1,160 crore worldwide on a budget of ₹300 crore, further strengthened his financial position.
A college dropout from Kanpur’s Harcourt Butler Technical University, Pandey’s journey to becoming an ed-tech giant offers a new story of wealth creation in India. His story is a testament to the power of digital entrepreneurship, proving that immense wealth is no longer limited to legacy business families or the glamour of Bollywood, but can also be earned at the grassroots level in the new digital economy.
