Afghanistan Squad for Asia Cup 2025
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced a strong 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, confirming their full squad participation in the tournament. Led by the dynamic Rashid Khan, the team has a mix of experienced players and promising young talent. The spin attack has been given a major boost with the inclusion of Mujeeb ur Rahman and Allah Ghazanfar, who missed the first Champions Trophy.
The squad also sees the return of pacer Naveen-ul-Haq, who will be playing for Afghanistan for the first time this year. He will be joined in the fast bowling line-up by left-arm pacers Fazalhaq Farooqi and Farid Ahmad Malik. This depth in the fast bowling department, along with a world-class spin attack, makes Afghanistan a serious contender in the competition.
The batting line-up will be anchored by top-order batsmen Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Darwish Rasoli and Sediqullah Atal. The squad also features an established core of all-rounders including the experienced Mohammad Nabi, Azmatullah Umarzai, Karim Janat and Gulbadin Naib. Wicketkeepers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Mohammad Ishaq have also been included. The selectors have picked three travelling reserve players: Wafiullah Tarkhel, Nangyal Kharote and Abdullah Ahmadzai.

Afghanistan’s Asia Cup campaign will begin with the tournament opener against Hong Kong in Abu Dhabi on September 9. Prior to the Asia Cup, the team will take part in a tri-series against the UAE and Pakistan, featuring the majority of the squad, giving them a chance to gain valuable match practice. The team is keen to put up a strong showing on the continental stage building on their recent successes in international cricket.
