Yamaha Launches Retro XSR155, Sporty FZ Rev, and Two New Electric Scooters

Yamaha Motor India is making a significant strategic shift, further strengthening its commitment to the Indian market and emphasizing the rapidly growing electric vehicle and premium motorcycle segments. As part of its “Powers into a New Era” campaign, the company has introduced an impressive lineup of four new vehicles: the retro-classic XSR155, a new FZ Rev variant, and two all-new electric scooters, the Aerox E and EC-06.

1. XSR155: Modern Performance in a Retro-Classic Package

Yamaha is capitalizing on the popular neo-retro trend with the XSR155. This model combines vintage styling, including a teardrop-shaped tank and a round all-LED headlamp, with thoroughly modern engineering.

 * Engine and Performance: It is powered by a 155cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, single-cylinder engine (from the R15) that produces 18.1 bhp and 14.2 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

* Features: The bike is equipped with a comprehensive suite of features, including a round LCD instrument cluster with Y-Connect app connectivity, allowing users to view call, text, and email alerts.

* Safety: Safety is a key feature, with dual-disc brakes, standard dual-channel ABS, and a traction control system to prevent wheel slip.

* Price: The starting ex-showroom price in Delhi is ₹1.50 lakh. On-road prices will vary, for example, ₹1.74 lakh in Delhi, ₹1.79 lakh in Mumbai, and ₹1.90 lakh in Bengaluru.

 2. FZ Rev: A Stylish New Edition for the Youth

Aimed at young riders, the FZ Rev is the latest addition to the popular FZ series. Designed to be equally effortless in the city and on the highway, the bike focuses on style and agile handling.

* Engine and Performance: It is powered by a 149cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 12.2 bhp and is paired with a 5-speed transmission.

* Design: The bike features a striking full-LED projector headlamp, a sleek fuel tank, a slim rear profile with a striking LED taillight, and a single-piece seat.

* Chassis and Safety: For easy handling, the FZ Rev weighs 136 kg. It is equipped with disc brakes on both sides and single-chlkannel ABS.

* Price: The FZ Rev has been launched at an ex-showroom price of ₹1,17,218 in Delhi and will be sold in only one variant.

 3. Yamaha’s Electric Scooters: Aerox E and EC-06

The most significant part of this announcement is Yamaha’s decisive entry into the electric vehicle space with two distinct scooter models.

This is Yamaha’s first electric scooter in India, equipped with a sporty look and impressive specifications.

* Powertrain: It features a 9.4 kW peak power motor that delivers 48 Nm of torque for fast acceleration.

* Battery and Range: This scooter has a certified range of 106 km. It uses two detachable battery setups (two 3 kWh packs, totaling 6 kWh) that can be removed and charged at home in approximately 6 hours.

* Features: It is packed with technologies, including a 5-inch TFT color screen, Y-Connect smartphone integration (for vehicle status, location, etc.), three ride modes (Eco, Standard, Power), a Boost function, and a Reverse mode.  It also includes disc brakes with a traction control system and single-channel ABS.

* Launch: Pricing will be announced in the first quarter of 2026. Deliveries will begin once Yamaha establishes a robust charging and battery-swapping network.

EC-06: Practical Maxi-Style EV

Possibly a practical, maxi-style EV, the EC-06 combines futuristic design with everyday usability.

* Powertrain: It is equipped with a 4.5 kW motor that can deliver a maximum output of 6.7 kW.

* Battery and Range: The EC-06 offers a substantial certified range of 160 km from its 4 kWh fixed battery. It supports home charging, which takes approximately 9 hours to fully charge.

* Features: Features include an LCD instrument cluster with built-in telematics, three ride modes, reverse assist, and a large 24.5-liter under-seat storage space.

* Launch: Pricing has not yet been announced, but further details and launch timelines are expected to be shared before the first quarter of 2026.

Yamaha’s ‘New Era’: Renewed Focus on India

These launches are part of Yamaha’s broader strategic vision. Present in India since 1985, the company is now aggressively targeting the EV and premium segments, with a stated goal of achieving a 10% share of the EV market by 2025. The company plans to introduce more EV models by 2026, expand its dealer network, and explore future technologies such as solar charging stations and advanced app-based services.
