Rohit Sharma Regains No. 1 Rank in ICC ODI Rankings for the First Time in His Career, Surpasses Shubman Gill
Indian captain Rohit Sharma has achieved a major milestone in his career, reaching the number one spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings for the first time. The 38-year-old has risen from third to first place following a stellar performance in the recent series against Australia.
Rohit Sharma’s rise to the top spot came after he was named “Player of the Series” in the three-match ODI series, where he was in excellent form, scoring a century and a half-century. His impressive performance boosted his rating to 781 points, finally securing the top spot he had long sought.
This achievement has seen Rohit Sharma surpass his opening partner, Shubman Gill, who held the number one spot for quite some time. Gill’s rating now stands at 745 points, placing him in third place in the updated rankings. Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran has moved up to second place with an impressive 764 points.
This number one ranking is particularly notable because Sharma previously reached his career-high rating of 882 points in 2019 after his historic five-century World Cup campaign, but was unable to reclaim the top spot at that time, as his teammate Virat Kohli topped the rankings with nearly 900 points.
New ICC ODI Top 10 Batting Rankings
The top order has seen significant changes in the latest update. Former number one Virat Kohli has dropped out of the top five and is now in sixth place with 725 points.
