Babar Azam Completed 15,000 International Runs
Pakistan cricket team’s legendary batsman and former captain, Babar Azam, has added another remarkable achievement to his career. He has become the fifth Pakistani player to reach 15,000 runs in international cricket.
Babar achieved this historic milestone during the final ODI against South Africa. Most notably, Babar achieved this feat in the fewest innings compared to the other four great Pakistani batsmen.
Babar is the Fastest Pakistani to Score 15,000 Runs
Babar Azam played just 370 innings to reach 15,000 international runs. Previous Pakistani legends (Inzamam-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, and Javed Miandad) had to play between 400 and 550 innings to reach this milestone. This reflects Babar’s consistency and impressive performance across all three formats (Test, ODI, and T20).
In his career spanning 329 matches (370 innings), Babar has scored 15,004 runs at an average of 45.46, including 31 centuries and 104 half-centuries.
Pakistan’s impressive win against South Africa
In the match in which Babar set this record, Pakistan easily defeated South Africa.
South Africa’s innings
Batting first, South Africa got off to a good start. Quinton de Kock (53) and Luan-Dre Pretorius (39) added 72 runs for the first wicket. However, Agha Salman broke this partnership in the 15th over. Mohammad Nawaz then dismissed de Kock, and South Africa’s innings faltered.
The Pakistani bowlers were bowled out for 143 in 37.5 overs. Abrar Ahmed took 4 wickets for 27 runs for Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Innings
Chasing a target of 144, Pakistan got off to a poor start, losing Fakhar Zaman (0) in the first over. Babar Azam (27) then added 64 runs for the second wicket with Sam Ayub. After Babar’s run-out, Sam Ayub shared a 65-run partnership with Mohammad Rizwan to take the team to victory.
Saim Ayub played an aggressive innings of 77 runs in 70 balls, hitting 11 fours and a six. Pakistan won the match in 25.1 overs for the loss of only 3 wickets.
