Deepti Sharma joins exclusive club of Indian World Cup legends

Star all-rounder Deepti Sharma has etched her name in cricket history. She became the fifth Indian to win the prestigious Player of the Tournament award at the ICC World Cup. Sharma’s exceptional performance at the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup led India to a historic first ICC trophy.

Sharma performed brilliantly with both bat and ball. In nine matches, she scored 215 runs at a solid average of 30.71. However, her bowling completely dominated the competition, leading the tournament with 22 wickets.

Her efforts culminated in a victorious final in Mumbai, where hosts India defeated South Africa by 52 runs. With this achievement, Deepti Sharma also became the second Indian all-rounder, after Yuvraj Singh, to win the tournament’s top individual honor.

During the ODI World Cup held in India, Virat Kohli displayed a stellar batting performance. He set a new record by scoring 765 runs in 11 matches at an impressive average of 95.62, including three centuries and six half-centuries. Despite India’s defeat to Australia in the final, Kohli was undoubtedly the best player of the series.

The hero of India’s 2011 World Cup victory, Yuvraj Singh delivered one of the best all-round performances in the tournament’s history. He scored 362 runs at an average of 90.50, including a century and four half-centuries, and also took 15 crucial wickets. His performance played a key role in India’s trophy win in Mumbai.

This legendary batsman set a new record in 2003. Sachin Tendulkar distinguished himself by scoring 673 runs in 11 matches at an average of 61.18, including a century and six half-centuries.
