The Rajasthan Royals finished their IPL 2025 season on a winning note, securing a comprehensive six-wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings. Opting to field first after winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals’ captain Sanju Samson saw his bowlers initially face a spirited start from the Super Kings. Despite the early loss of Devon Conway, who departed after a 12-run opening stand with Ayush Mhatre, CSK found momentum through a blistering 56-run partnership off just 24 balls between Ayush Mhatre and Ravichandran Ashwin. Mhatre, along with Dewald Brevis, provided aggressive stands that kept the run rate high. However, CSK struggled to capitalize on this momentum in the death overs.
Despite contributions from Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni, who replaced a departing batter in the middle, CSK could only manage 28 runs in the final overs, losing two crucial wickets in the process. This stifling performance by the Royals’ bowlers ultimately restricted the five-time champions to a score of 187/8 in 20 overs, preventing them from touching the 200-run mark.
In response, the Rajasthan Royals’ chase got off to a flying start, largely due to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s brisk 36 runs off 19 balls. However, it was Vaibhav Suryavanshi who truly took charge after Jaiswal’s dismissal. Suryavanshi, partnering with captain Sanju Samson, settled into a destructive rhythm. Though CSK denied Suryavanshi strike for much of the powerplay, he blazed yet another half-century, ensuring the Royals maintained control of the chase.
A minor hiccup occurred when both Samson and Suryavanshi fell in quick succession, with Ravichandran Ashwin claiming both wickets in the space of four deliveries. However, this proved to be only a brief scare. Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer then efficiently finished off the chase, securing the victory for Rajasthan Royals and allowing them to end their season on a high.
